Major cool down Today into Sunday with humidities slowly recovering. Better recovery occurring across the Sierra Nevada. 3. Strong Winds with gusts reaching between 45 and 60 mph. A High Wind Warning is in effect for the Mojave Slopes through 2 AM Sunday and a Wind Advisory is in effect for the same time in the Mojave Desert. Strong winds will also be observed over the West Hills along the I-5 corridor. && .DISCUSSION... Deep trough digging over Central California is providing the area with a significant cool-down. Yet, along with a drop in temperatures, winds have seen a significant increase as strong winds blanket Central California. The lack of moisture across the region has also elevated the concerns of fire starts as windy and dry conditions exist this Saturday. Both wind fire weather products are in effect during trough passage with conditions settling down on Sunday. After having temperatures reach the century mark late in the week, Probability of Exceedance (PoE) of reaching 90 degree will remain at low percentages over the weekend as Valley temperatures struggle to reach 90 degrees. PoE of 90 degrees reaches the 50% mark by Monday and shows a steady claim during the week. PoE of 100 degree hits the 50% mark on Thursday with PoE of reaching 95 degrees at 80%-95%. Therefore, will expect max temperatures to hover near 100 degrees later in the week and into the weekend. While some uncertainty exist in the later periods, will expect max temperatures to hit 100 degrees at the more favored locations around the Friday and next Saturday time frame. Wind will remain an issue as the next disturbance is ready to cross the district later today. Ensembles surface pressure analysis is indicating the gradient from KSFO to KLAS reaching a range of 16mb-19mb this afternoon. At these levels, wind gusting to 50-60 mph have high confidence of occurring as PoE values sit at around 70%-90% range. Therefore, will maintain the High Wind products in place and extend the Red Flag Warning through Sunday as humidity will be slow to rise during the weekend. By Sunday afternoon, ensembles cut the gradient in half as winds are expected to diminish. Afterward, the slow building of the ridge pattern will keep winds down as temperatures take center stage for the next warm-up later in the week. && .AVIATION... 06Z Update: VFR conditions will prevail for the next 24 hours across the Central California Interior. A 70%-90% chance of surface Wind G50KT across Kern County near KMHV and KIYK through 10Z to 12Z Sunday.
