111 FXUS66 KMTR 082053 AFDMTR Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Francisco CA 153 PM PDT Sun Jun 8 2025 ...New SYNOPSIS, SHORT TERM, LONG TERM... .SYNOPSIS... Issued at 153 PM PDT Sun Jun 8 2025 Fairly quiet conditions this week, with the marine layer making additional appearances for at least another night or two. Temperatures will generally be near their seasonal averages this week, though interior temperatures might rise a few degrees each day before moderating some late into the week and weekend. && .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Monday) Issued at 153 PM PDT Sun Jun 8 2025 An upper level trough just to our west will produce a small upper level cutoff low which is expected to slide into Central CA late tonight and into early tomorrow morning. Expect onshore flow to usher in the marine layer again tonight, leading to cloudy skies and cooler temperatures. IF the marine layer is able to make it about 1500 ft again or so, expect a similar clearing pattern for tomorrow and similar high temperatures as to what we see today. && .LONG TERM... (Monday night through next Saturday) Issued at 153 PM PDT Sun Jun 8 2025 Upper level ridging holds through Tuesday, with the ridging being pushed into the Desert Southwest early Wednesday. This is due to a quick moving upper level shortwave diving across the PacNW and Northern CA with it quickly moving east throughout the day. This will leave us with quasi-zonal to weak upper level troughing for a brief period on Thursday, before upper level troughing takes hold of the forecast for Friday and the weekend. High temperatures remain a touch warmer on Tuesday before falling and then generally holding near the seasonal averages for the rest of the forecast period. && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1034 AM PDT Sun Jun 8 2025 Mix of MVFR cigs along the coast and VFR inland through today. High confidence in clearing times at most terminals with the exception of coastal terminals such as MRY and HAF. While other terminals will remain stable SKC, HAF is likely to bounce in and out of SCT-BKN through midday before BKN/OVC prevailing again later this afternoon. Otherwise high confidence in stratus return tonight with another round of MVFR/IFR cigs. Vicinity of SFO...Pretty reliable clearing signal over the peninsula currently, so high confidence in VFR through today. Also high confidence in stratus return this evening with MVFR cigs. Not much variation in marine layer depth over the current TAF period. SFO Bridge Approach...Similar to SFO. Monterey Bay Terminals...Relatively short VFR window midday today along coastal areas. Good onshore flow and deeper marine layer restore MVFR/IFR cigs with high confidence later this afternoon. && .MARINE... (Today through Friday) Issued at 438 AM PDT Sun Jun 8 2025 A fresh to strong westerly breeze will develop across the bays this afternoon and persist through the evening. A more widespread fresh NW breeze will arrive Monday afternoon across the coastal waters. A low amplitude, long period southwesterly swell arrives Monday, bringing enhanced currents and causing waves to break in deeper water. Strong NW winds and rough seas are expected to arrive by mid-week. && .BEACHES... Issued at 117 PM PDT Sun Jun 8 2025 A long period southerly swell will enter the waters Monday into Tuesday bringing a higher risk for rip current along beaches. Breaking waves about 5 to 7 feet, but strong currents and sneaker waves will be the bigger hazard. Use caution near the water and never turn your back on the ocean. && .MTR WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... CA...None. PZ...Small Craft Advisory until 9 PM PDT this evening for SF Bay N of Bay Bridge.
