378 FXUS65 KREV 022010 AFDREV Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Reno NV 110 PM PDT Mon Jun 2 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... * Daily chances of showers and thunderstorms are expected in the Sierra south of Tahoe and Mineral County. * Warm weather persists this week with hotter conditions late this week into the weekend. && .DISCUSSION... Our weather pattern this week will undergo little change as broad high pressure remains anchored in the eastern Pacific with weak troughing overhead. We`ll slowly cool off through midweek as low pressure develops, but it`ll stay warm throughout the week as daytime highs reach the 70s and 80s. Winds will remain light much of this week, save for our typical zephyr breezes in the afternoons. Afternoon showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected each day this week with best chances (10-30%) favoring the Sierra south of Tahoe and Mineral County. In fact, latest satellite observations reveal a maturing cumulus field along the higher terrain of Alpine and Mono County, suggesting this is where the near term potential of thunderstorms is greatest. Potential impacts from any thunderstorm include brief heavy downpours, small hail, gusty outflows, and lightning/new fire starts. The eastern Pacific high finally dislodges at the end of this week and traverses eastward into the Pacific Northwest. Temperatures will steadily warm after Wednesday in response as we return to 80- and 90- degree heat in time for the weekend. Widespread moderate HeatRisk is expected across western Nevada with minor HeatRisk for Sierra communities over the weekend. Be sure to continue heat safety practices such as staying hydrated and limiting time in the heat. -Salas && .AVIATION... The primary weather concern will be a 10-30% chance of showers and thunderstorms near KMMH through 03Z. Thunderstorms will be capable of small hail, gusty/erratic outflow winds, and occasional lightning. Otherwise, widespread VFR conditions and breezy west winds in the afternoon today and Tuesday. -Salas && .REV Watches/Warnings/Advisories... NV...None. CA...None. && $$
