Updated Aviation Section. && .KEY MESSAGES... 1. Elevated Fire risk for the West Side Hills on Thursday into Friday morning due to winds and low humidity. 2. Major cool down on Saturday into Sunday with humidities recovering especially in the Sierra Nevada. 3. Wind gusts pick up Thursday afternoon and evening through the weekend. A High Wind Warning is in effect for the Mojave Slopes from 5 PM Thursday through 2 AM Sunday and a Wind Advisory is in effect for the same time in the Mojave Desert. && .DISCUSSION... Warm temperatures continue to dominate today as the weak ridge of high pressure continues to remain in our area. However, temperatures drop slightly but winds increase as the ridge moves away with a deep trough sliding in. This trough is bringing strong winds to the San Joaquin Valley and the Mojave Slopes and Desert. Thursday also brings an elevated fire risk especially for the West Side Hills from the increasing winds, highs near the triple digits, and the low humidities. Saturday also brings a fire risk due to the winds but the humidities are forecast to be higher and temperatures much cooler. A High Wind Warning has been issued for the Mojave Slopes and a Wind Advisory for the Mojave Desert from 5 PM Thursday through 2 AM Sunday due to this trough as there is a 30 to 90 percent chance of wind gusts up to 60 mph during this stretch. Winds will also pick up on Saturday for the Valley with cooler temperatures in the low to mid 80s. Winds decrease to begin Monday with a slow warmup into next week. && .AVIATION... 06Z Update: VFR conditions will prevail for the next 24 hours across the Central California Interior. && .FIRE WEATHER... ELEVATED FIRE RISK FOR THURSDAY Minimum RH values of 15 to 25 percent will continue across much of the region through the rest of the week with localized higher values in the foothill areas. Some areas of the West Side Hills can see gusts up to 35 MPH. Minimum RH values in the single digits and high wind gusts up to 45 MPH in the Mojave Desert and up to 60 MPH along the Mojave Slopes into the weekend. && .AIR QUALITY ISSUES...
