941 FXUS65 KVEF 201126 AFDVEF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 426 AM PDT Fri Jun 20 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... * Critical fire weather conditions will continue through Saturday across southern Nevada and northwest Arizona due to low humidity and gusty winds. * Gusty winds will pick up across the western Mojave Desert today, spreading into northwest Arizona on Saturday. * Temperatures will decrease as we head into the weekend, dropping below normal on Saturday and remaining cooler than normal through early next week. && .DISCUSSION...through next Friday. An unseasonably strong trough can be seen pushing into the Pacific Northwest on infrared and water vapor satellite imagery tonight. This low pressure system will continue to push inland and dig south over the next few days, resulting in gusty southwesterly winds picking up across the region. These winds, combined with low humidity and critical fuels will result in increased fire danger today and tomorrow for portions of southern Nevada and northwest Arizona. As such, multiple Red Flag Warnings are currently in effect. More details regarding the Red Flag Warnings can be found in the FIRE WEATHER discussion below. In addition to Red Flag Warnings, multiple Wind Advisories have been issued for wind gusts in excess of 40 mph. A Wind Advisory will go into effect for the western Mojave Desert this afternoon and will run through Saturday night. Another Wind Advisory will go into effect for Mohave County on Saturday morning, running through late Saturday night. Additionally, 20 to 25 mph sustained southwesterly winds with gusts up to 40 mph will result in 1 to 3 foot waves on Lake Mead, Lake Mohave, and Lake Havasu on Saturday. As such, a Lake Wind Advisory has been issued for the Colorado River Valley for Saturday. As the aforementioned trough digs into the area, we will see temperatures decrease with cooler than normal temperatures on tap for the region over the weekend. These cooler than normal temperatures will persist into early next week as the trough remains positioned over the Desert Southwest. && .FIRE WEATHER...A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for Nevada Fire Weather Zones 461, 462, 463, and 464 through 11:00 pm PDT tonight. An additional Red Flag Warning remains in effect through 11:00 pm PDT/MST Saturday night for Nevada Fire Weather Zones 465 and 466, as well as Arizona Fire Weather Zones 101 and 102. 20 to 25 mph sustained southwesterly winds are expected across southern Nevada and northwest Arizona today. These winds will be accompanied by wind gusts up to 40 mph. Afternoon relative humidities will bottom out in the single digits with overnight recoveries in the 15 to 25% range. Low humidity will persist into Saturday, with strong winds persisting across far southern Nevada and Mohave County. As a result of the low humidity and strong winds, there is an increased risk of wildfire starts and spreading. Outdoor burning and recreation involving sparks or flames is not recommended. Winds across the region will decrease on Sunday, which will mitigate wildfire risk. && .AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 12Z Forecast Package...South to southwest winds are expected today through Saturday, with gusts of 27 to 32 knots expected this afternoon and again Saturday afternoon.
