868 FXUS66 KMTR 090448 AFDMTR Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Francisco CA 948 PM PDT Sun Jun 8 2025 ...New AVIATION, MARINE... .SYNOPSIS... Issued at 153 PM PDT Sun Jun 8 2025 Fairly quiet conditions this week, with the marine layer making additional appearances for at least another night or two. Temperatures will generally be near their seasonal averages this week, though interior temperatures might rise a few degrees each day && .UPDATE... Issued at 852 PM PDT Sun Jun 8 2025 No changes in the forecast this evening as quiet ambient weather conditions will continue to persist through the extended forecast. An active marine layer is producing low marine stratus clouds along our coastal communities, with patchy fog and drizzle possible through the overnight and into the Monday morning commute. && .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Monday) Issued at 153 PM PDT Sun Jun 8 2025 An upper level trough just to our west will produce a small upper level cutoff low which is expected to slide into Central CA late tonight and into early tomorrow morning. Expect onshore flow to usher in the marine layer again tonight, leading to cloudy skies and cooler temperatures. IF the marine layer is able to make it about 1500 ft again or so, expect a similar clearing pattern for tomorrow and similar high temperatures as to what we see today. && .LONG TERM... (Monday night through next Saturday) Issued at 153 PM PDT Sun Jun 8 2025 Upper level ridging holds through Tuesday, with the ridging being pushed into the Desert Southwest early Wednesday. This is due to a quick moving upper level shortwave diving across the PacNW and Northern CA with it quickly moving east throughout the day. This will leave us with quasi-zonal to weak upper level troughing for a brief period on Thursday, before upper level troughing takes hold of the forecast for Friday and the weekend. High temperatures remain a touch warmer on Tuesday before falling and then generally holding near the seasonal averages for the rest of the forecast period. && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 948 PM PDT Sun Jun 8 2025 Coastal stratus /MVFR-IFR/ will move inland tonight and Monday morning on onshore winds. The SFO-SAC pressure gradient is 3.9 mb and the marine layer depth is 1100 feet per Sunday afternoon Oakland upper air sounding. A few patches of coastal drizzle are likely tonight and Monday morning. Stratus lifting to MVFR-VFR while it`ll be VFR inland Monday. HREF output shows stratus returning Monday night and Tuesday morning. Vicinity of SFO...Stratus has reached SFO. Both HREF and RAP (pessimistic, going IFR-LIFR ceiling) output shows increasing stratus /IFR/ tonight and Monday morning. BKN ceiling lowering to IFR tonight prevailing to 18z Monday. Stratus /IFR/ returns Monday evening and night. West northwest wind near 10 knots tonight and Monday morning. West to northwest wind increasing to 20 to 28 knots Monday afternoon and early evening. SFO Bridge Approach...Similar to SFO. Monterey Bay Terminals...Stratus /MVFR-IFR/ and a few patches of light drizzle are possible tonight and Monday morning. Stratus lifting to MVFR-VFR by late Monday morning and early afternoon. Onshore winds 5 to 15 knots tonight and Monday. Stratus /IFR/ returns Monday evening. && .MARINE... (Tonight through next Saturday) Issued at 942 PM PDT Sun Jun 8 2025 Westerly breezes will continue across the bays this evening. A more widespread fresh NW breeze will arrive Monday afternoon across the coastal waters. A low amplitude, long period southwesterly swell arrives Monday, bringing enhanced currents and causing waves to break in deeper water. Strong NW winds and rough seas are expected to arrive by mid-week. && .BEACHES... Issued at 117 PM PDT Sun Jun 8 2025 A long period southerly swell will enter the waters Monday into Tuesday bringing a higher risk for rip current along beaches. Breaking waves about 5 to 7 feet, but strong currents and sneaker waves will be the bigger hazard. Use caution near the water and never turn your back on the ocean. && .MTR WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... CA...None.
