262 FXUS65 KREV 091941 AFDREV Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Reno NV 1241 PM PDT Mon Jun 9 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... * Scattered thunderstorms with hot temperatures today and tomorrow. * Drier and cooler Wednesday onward with critical fire weather possible. && .DISCUSSION... * Another afternoon-evening of scattered t-storms, initially focused on the high terrain with additional storms developing along outflow interactions into W Nevada. 12z HREF showing highest concentration of storms from Tahoe north to Lassen with 50-70% odds in the neighborhood probabilities. Strong outflows to 50 mph, lightning, new fire starts are the main hazards. Isolated rainfall to 1" possible per HREF Max QPF. * For Tuesday, storm risk gets focused from Lassen northward where a passing shortwave will help enhance storm organization and severe potential. See SPC marginal risk for day two. * That passing wave will usher in a period of enhanced afternoon breezes Wednesday through the end of the week with a trough setting up along the west coast. Areas of critical fire weather are likely each day, mainly in the wind prone areas below 6000`. Mostly borderline winds, gusts 30-35 mph, and ECMWF EFI really isn`t hitting too hard at wind potential. That being said, I would not be surprised to see us issue a Red Flag at some point, perhaps Friday or Saturday per NBM peaking the winds then. * With the slow breakdown of the ridge, hot temps from today and tomorrow will cool to near normal Wednesday onward. Moderate HeatRisk for most areas today and tomorrow, reduces to minor levels starting Wednesday with decent cooling at night. Maybe even the return of 40s in W Nevada rural/suburban valleys. -Chris && .AVIATION... * Thunderstorms likely across the Sierra through 3z, with outflows producing new storms into W Nevada (RNO). MVFR conditions with wind gusts to 40 knots and lightning expected. * Outside of storms, typical early summer conditions expected with W/NW breezes 20-25 knots through 3z. * Similar Tuesday except t-storm risk is pushed northward, mainly north of SVE to AAT. * Shallow fog possible at TRK again early Tuesday morning. If they end up seeing rain this afternoon/evening, then odds go up a bit. -Chris && .REV Watches/Warnings/Advisories... NV...None. CA...None. && $$
