.DISCUSSION...
A cutoff area of low pressure is currently progressing
southward along the Pacific coast, and will come to a
standstill around 200 miles from Monterey Bay overnight into
tomorrow. At the same time, an area of high pressure is building
over the Four Corners region. The combination of these synoptic
features will cause the flow over central California to
propagate from the southwest, driving warmer but near-average
temperatures to the region through midweek. The orientation of
the low is expected to cause stronger winds to develop in the
lee side and wind-prone areas of the region Monday afternoon.
Locations such as Lake Isabella and west of Lost Hills have a
50 to 60 percent chance or wind gusts to exceed 30 miles per
hour; RH values near 20 percent in these areas will result in an
elevated threat for fire weather conditions.

As the week progresses, the aforementioned area of high
pressure will slide to the west, centering over central and
southern California Thursday. This placement of the high will
bring a return to triple digit temperatures in the San Joaquin
Valley through the weekend with the following daily
probabilities.

            Thu Fri Sat Sun
Bakersfield 45% 95% 80% 75%
Coalinga 45% 65% 20% 35%
Fresno 45% 95% 80% 65%
Hanford 45% 95% 75% 65%
Madera 45% 90% 65% 50%
Merced 25% 80% 30% 20%
Visalia 45% 90% 80% 75%

The Kern Desert has a 40 to 90 percent chance for temperatures
to exceed 105 degrees during the same time period, with Inyokern
and Ridgecrest having the greatest of these probabilities. The
warmer temperatures later in the week will also cause relative
humidities to decrease. Widespread minRH values 10 to 20 percent
are anticipated for the San Joaquin Valley and Sierra Nevada;
values less than 10 percent are expected for the desert areas
through the forecast period.
