.DISCUSSION...
(Wednesday through next Tuesday)
Issued at 1138 PM CST MON DEC 22 2025

A stout upper-level ridge should take over as the dominant weather
feature by this afternoon, and remain in place for much of the next
week. Given the depth of this ridge, very unseasonable temperatures
are expected into next weekend, with temperatures running 15-20
degrees warmer than average for this time of the year. Little to no
rainfall is also expected the next week, given the lack of any kind
of forcing under this ridge.

By the weekend however, a very potent trough and cold front will
begin dropping south over the Great Lakes. This cold front should
begin working into the region by Sunday, with rain chances
increasing by the morning hours. This front will be very
progressive, with it pushing all the way through the region by late
Sunday night. Strong cold air advection will quickly work in
behind it, with temperatures falling to at, or below freezing for
most of the region into Monday morning. From here, it looks like
temperatures will be far more seasonable, if not below average for
a few days to start the next workweek.

.AVIATION...
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1138 PM CST MON DEC 22 2025

A thick layer of clouds will linger for most of the next 18-hours,
but thankfully all terminals should remain in VFR category. A
brief period of MVFR CIGS will be possible in the morning, but
confidence was not high enough to introduce that at this time.

.FIRE WEATHER...

S/SW winds will begin to increase today, ushering in plenty of
moisture from the Gulf. MinRH values will generally range above 50%
into next weekend, with mixing heights ebbing and flowing with the
cloud cover. No organized rain chances are anticipated through the
workweek, with drought conditions persisting for the foreseeable
future.
